review: Not a Peacoquette

Esta era a marca de mochila que me andou durante tanto tempo debaixo de olho, pelo menos enquanto grávida e logo nos primeiros meses de vida da bebé. Aquele padrão galaxy!!! Mas isso foi antes, num passado longínquo, antes de mergulhar a sério na arte do carregar, do paninho e do maravilhoso mundo do conforto sem plásticos. Chegada a hora de escolher uma mochila já nem me lembrei de procurar a tal galaxy… Entretanto tive uma má experiência com uma CHIC in Paris e quis o fabuloso destino das amizades facebookianas do babywearing trazer até mim esta Peacoquette para me salvar um pouco da imagem com que tinha ficado das tão populares mochilas Isara. Obrigada Catarina Teles, “ma unexpected friend, you rock”! À CHIC in Paris volto aqui qualquer dia, fica prometido.

A Isara é uma empresa da Roménia, país onde esta mochila em particular é fabricada, com tecido broken twill Colimaçon&Cie 100% algodão orgânico, fiado em Portugal e tecido e tingido em França (coisas habituais nesta era da globalização). O modelo V3 da Isara foi já lançada no mercado em 2013. São 5 anos sem grandes inovações, portanto. Presumo que haja muitos clientes satisfeitos… A verdade é que quando a usei logo da primeira vez encontrei uma diferença substancial no conforto em relação à CHIC in Paris, que não é de conversão de pano (mas é V3 também). Quem julga que a qualidade do tecido não influencia significativamente o conforto e adaptabilidade ao corpo de uma mochila desengane-se, porque influencia… e muito! Quando falo aqui em qualidade do tecido refiro-me às propriedades de um pano que o tornam próprio para usar em babywearing no seu formato-sem-estrutura, já que é muito comum haver mochilas em panos (i.e. tecidos) que servem para mochilas, mas não são próprios para usar como pano em diferentes amarrações e portes de babywearing. Genericamente, uma mochila de conversão de pano dará um maior aconchego, por melhor se adaptar ao nosso corpo, e será mais fresca.

Ainda assim, a mochila funciona sempre como um todo, em conjunto com o corpo de quem carrega e do bebé também, pelo que nestas coisas não há, infelizmente, receitas universais. Porque eu posso ser magrinha e alta como magrinha e baixa, ou mais cheiinha com pouca cintura como mais cheiinha e cheia de curvas, ter mais ou menos “ossada”. E, acima de tudo, nós carregamos os nossos bebés de forma ativa, ou seja, não estamos paradas/os, vamos executando outras actividades, o que dá logo uma dinâmica muito própria ao ato de carregar. Já para não falar que nos “mexemos” de forma tão própria, não é? Que temos maior ou menor robustez músculo-esquelética, sensibilidade cutânea, massa adiposa distribuída de forma tão desigual (ou nenhuma de todo) … Então, de que vale fazer reviews de mochilas? Pelo mesmo motivo que vale a pena fazer de panos! 😉

 

Que tenho então eu dizer desta Peacoquette, para além do confortável tecido Colimaçon? De uma forma genérica, que é feita para pessoas grandes, tal como a maioria das mochilas. O cinto é almofadado e largo em boa proporção e tem o bom pormenor de o ter prolongado até ao fecho. Porém, as alças só têm a opção de atar a meio do painel, mas mais para a parte superior, ficando em mim muito encostada à axila (lembram-se da parte da sensibilidade cutânea?… ouch!). Os fechos anteriores têm um bom pedaço de tecido por baixo, o que torna aí mais confortável no nosso corpo e de certa forma nos braços e mãos do bebé. O painel parece ter uma boa proporcionalidade, sendo ajustável em largura com velcro e em altura na parte superior com fivela. O detalhe menos positivo – a maioria do ajuste da alça é feita no lado oposto do painel, o que para usar com a bebé à frente não facilita o ajuste (senhores fabricantes de mochilas, lembrem-se por favor que as recém-mamãs têm, no geral, ainda muita relaxina a circular no organismo e uma tendência incrível para tendinites). Ainda assim, é uma mochila que dá bom suporte, um banquinho jeitoso, e é leve e fresca. Lá está, eu pessoalmente só não me senti mais confortável porque com os ajustes ao máximo não me encontrei convenientemente “aconchegada” e “estável”, ao mesmo tempo que me sentia muito apertada em alguns pontos específicos. Acho que para a próxima tenho que experimentar uma full conversion! 😉

review: Not a Peacoquette

Isara was the brand of SSCs that caught my attention for a long time, at least while pregnant, and soon after the birth of my baby girl. That galaxy pattern!!! But that was before, in a distant time, before seriously falling into the art of carrying, and the wonderful world of woven wraps and the plastic-free cosiness. When the time came to choose an SSC I did not even remember to look for such galaxy pattern… Meanwhile, I had a bad experience with a CHIC in Paris, but fate and the wonderful “facebookian” friendships among babywearers, brought to me this Peacoquette, to rescue the bad image I had about the Isara’s SSC. Thank you Catarina Teles, “ma unexpected friend, you rock!” I will return here with CHIC in Paris one day, I promise you

 

Isara is a company from Romenia, where this SSC is made, with a broken twill 100% organic cotton Colimaçon & Cie fabric, spun in Portugal and woven and dyed in France (the usual things of globalization). Isara launched the V3 model in 2013, so it’s been 5 years with no major innovations. I assume that there are many satisfied customers… The truth is that when I first wore it I felt a substantial difference in comfort compared with CHIC in Paris, which is not wrap conversion (but it is a V3 as well). Whoever thinks that the quality of the fabric does not significantly influence the comfort and adaptability to our body of an SSC is totally off base, because it actually has a huge influence! By fabric quality I mean the properties of a wrap that makes it appropriate to use in babywearing in its without-structure-format, since it is very common to have fabrics that are proper for SSCs, but that are not suited for babywearing carries. Generally, a wrap conversion SSC will feel cosier, as it better adapts to the body, and will be fresher.

Still, the SSC always adjusts as a whole structure, along with the body of those carrying and the baby as well, so in these things there are no universal recipes, unfortunately. Because I can be thin and tall as thin and short, or larger with little waist as larger and full of curves, have more or less “bone”… And, above all, we carry our babies actively, that is, we are not standing still, we are carrying while doing other activities, which results in a dynamic of our own. Not to mention that we “move” in our own way, right? That we have greater or less muscular-skeletal robustness, cutaneous sensitivity, a bit of fat diversely distributed (or none fat mass at all) … So, what’s the point of doing reviews of SSCs? For the same reason that wrap reviews are worth doing! 😉

 

What do I have to say about this Peacoquette, apart from the comfortable Colimaçon wrap? Generally speaking, it is made for large people, just like most SSCs are. Its belt is cushioned and wide in a good proportion and it has the good detail of having a cushion under the buckles. However, the shoulder straps only attach in the middle of the panel, but more to the top of it, harming me in my armpit (remember of the cutaneous sensitivity? … ouch!). The front straps have a good piece of woven underneath, which makes them more comfortable to us and the baby too. The panel seems to have a good proportionality, being adjustable in width with velcro and in height at the top with buckles. The least positive detail is that most of the adjustment on the shoulder straps is made inversely to the panel, which to use with the baby in front does not facilitate the adjustment (kind manufacturers of SSCs, please remember that new moms have, in general, still much relaxin circulating in their body, and an incredible tendency for tendinitis). Still, it’s an SSC that gives a good support, a nice seat, and is light and cool. I personally just did not feel more comfortable because with the adjustments to the maximum I still did not feel properly “cosy” and “stable”, and at the same time I felt very tight in some points of my body. Maybe I will have to try a full wrap conversion next time! 😉
